A New Cicada Takes Flight

The rhythm of life in the tropics revolves around the changing seasons. The end of the pearl harvest is marked by the iconic song of cicadas, heralding the approaching monsoon, calling our divers home from the sea.

For Paspaley, cicadas hold special meaning — as the wet season draws to a close and cicadas fall silent, our pearling fleet sets sail once again, in pursuit of the elusive Pinctada maxima oyster and the rare, precious pearls nurtured within.

Pioneering spirit and transformation

Transformative Movement

The time of transformation arrives, the trilliant-cut rubellite gemstone button is gently pressed, the wings of the Cicada sweep open and closed, cocooning or revealing the pearl. A truly magical moment.

Gem-In-Pearl

The unique 17-millimetre top drop Australian South Sea pearl is embedded with pink sapphire and diamonds, using Paspaley’s exclusive gem-in-pearl technique.

Kinetic innovation

The Cicada Collier's double wings launch from resting to in-flight with a gentle movement. An innovation developed by Paspaley designers and Master Jewellers.

Precision Craftsmanship

Showcasing precision craftsmanship, Paspaley mother-of-pearl and natural coloured gemstones are custom-cut by our Master Jewellers for perfect placement within the Cicada’s golden wing frame.

A Unique Hand-Selected Pearl

At the centre of the design rests a 17-millimetre unique top drop Australian South Sea pearl, cultivated in the remote waters of Northern Australia.

Hand-selected by the Paspaley family for its radiant lustre, refined silhouette, and generous size, reflecting the Cicada's elegant form. It symbolises the spirit of the monsoon, and the legacy of Australia’s master pearlers.

A Celebration of Colour

Crafted in 18 karat yellow gold, the Cicada Collier celebrates an exotic refined selection of gemstones, including rubellite, pink tourmaline, pink sapphire, pink opal, white crystal opal, rainbow moonstone, white diamond, mother-of-pearl, and both circle and top drop pearl shapes.

By incorporating an exotic blend of precious gemstones, we present bejewelled versions of these magnificent creatures, drawing us into a vibrant fantasy world filled with colour and delight.

Rubellite

The most valuable of all tourmalines, the shocking pinks and deep crimsons observed in this variety are so intense, they are designated their own name “Rubellite”, which differs from classic pink tourmaline. This rare tourmaline deepens the Blushing Cicada palette with bold warmth and heart-led intensity.

Pink Opal

The "Hope Stone", pink opal represents love, healing and hope. The birthstone of October, it carries the promise of renewal, mirroring the first cicada calls of the Monsoon season. Its soft blush tones evoke the dawn of transformation.

Pink Sapphire

In shades ranging from soft blush to wild fuchsia, pink sapphires lend vibrancy to
our most romantic designs. Their brilliance embodies enduring beauty and
bold femininity.

pink tourmaline

Symbolising compassion and happiness, pink tourmaline enriches the Blushing Cicada palette. Custom-cut in tender, blushing hues, each stone adds a touch of warmth and romance.

White Opal

Treasured for its translucent body and spectral colour play, Australian white crystal opal adds ethereal glow. Each cabochon shimmers with soft flashes of green, pink and blue, like the shifting wings of a Cicada mid-flight.

Rainbow Moonstone

Associated with intuition and transformation, moonstone glows with inner light. Its soft, iridescent sheen evokes misty skies and the ephemeral nature of movement, a fitting tribute to cicada's kinetic spirit.
